The last evening shift that B-Shift at Truck 2 would work proved to be an eventful night.
The evening started out with the typical medic runs and fire alarms but then all hell broke loose when a thunderstorm ripped through the city. Truck 2 was dispatched for a 55 box dwelling fire which proved to be a good intent. Shortly after clearing, Truck 2 was dispatched as the Working Fire Truck on a church fire at Druid Hill Av and Lanvale Street at the Bethel AME Church; lightning had struck the steeple which sparked a fire which could be seen from a distance. Truck 2 had a great spot on the fire and had the aerial master stream up and flowing in under 5 minutes after arrival. Truck's 2, 10, and 16 continuously flowed water on the steeple eventually knocking the fire and preventing any additional damage to the church. Great job to all involved.
A short time after clearing the fire and returning to quarters, Truck 2 was dispatched along with BC6, E23, Squad 11, and M22 for a Vehicle accident with entrapment at E Baltimore Street and N Calvert St. Upon arrival, units found a small compact car overturned with one patient inside. Units worked together to extricate the person from the vehicle.
All in all, a good night for the final nightwork of Truck 2-B.............

We would like to thank all who came out to City Hall, those who rallied their communities, and those who passed out fliers attempting to educate members of the community on the false accusations regarding the protection of our citizens when Truck 2 closes. We are just under 2 short weeks to go and we are sure that time will go quick. Its been a good ride and we wish all our brothers and sisters a safe departure as they leave the super house for their new assignments; wherever that may be.
Rumors have already started about moving Truck 23 and Truck 6 into Steadman Monday thru Friday during the business hours. Many of our members have no idea as to what shift or what station they may be going to, guess vacations and child care do not concern the powers to be. Just another good kick in the shins (but a little higher)...
Thanks again to all......................God bless, be safe...
Yesterday morning the members of Steadman received some upsetting news, TRUCK COMPANY #2 WILL BE CLOSING EFFECTIVE 01 JULY 2009.
In addition to this closing, Engine 36 will also be closing and Truck 10 will be moving to the quarters of Engine 36. An additional medic will be placed at Steadman (Total of 3) and a 2nd medic will be going to the quarters of Engine 8.
There is still time so the members are hoping the Union and the members will rally together an fight to keep these companies open. If you live in the city or have friends/relatives that reside in the city, this should be fearful to you/them. Public safety should never be jeopardized when it comes to money. They are giving the police department over $7 million dollars extra for overtime, yet the Fire Department is being forced to close companies....
These companies can use all the support they can get....
Congratulations to the newest recruits assigned to Truck Company 2
- Firefighter-Paramedic Apprentice Gary Langford (B-Shift)
- Firefighter-Paramedic Apprentice Chad Meusel (D-Shift)

On 12/21/2008 at 11:37 hours, Box Alarm 8-2 was struck for a building fire in the 800 Blk of N. Carrollton Av. Truck Company #2 responded on the working
Fire and assisted with interior fire attack on heavy fire conditions. After several events questioned the stability of the structure, Command ordered all units out of
the building and to initiate Defensive operations. It took the Truck Companies with the ladder pipes and engine companies with the monitor pipes several hours
to bring this fire under control. Conditions were hampered by the extreme cold (10 degrees) and the high wind gusts. Truck 2 cleared at 0700 hours.
Shortly after 0700 hours on 16 November 2008 Truck 2, Rescue 1, Medic 1, and Battalion Chief 6 were dispatched from the Steadman Station to Park Av and Franklin Street for a report of a vehicle accident with rescue. Upon arrival crews found an SUV, with severe damage due to multiple rollover, on its side on the sidewalk. All occupants were out of the vehicle and were treated by Medic 1.

On November 11, 2008, members of the Steadman Station along with many members across the city showed their support for our troops by purchasing and wearing red shirts with the words "We support our troops". The proceeds from the sale of these shirts will be donated to a charity to be named later. In an order from Chief James Clack, members were permitted to wear these shirts on this date in honor of veterans everywhere.
